Winter Hiking Video to Bierstadt Lake in Rocky Mountain National Park

My Experience at Bierstadt Lake

Standing on a frozen, snow-covered Bierstadt Lake. Winter time in Rocky Mountain National Park.

Hiked to Bierstadt Lake from Bierstadt Lake trailhead, off of Bear Lake road in Rocky Mountain National Park. An official winter hike there was still a small amount of ice and snow on the trail. Micro-spikes were helpful.

As you steadily hike through the switch backs up to the top of the moraine, spectacular views of the continental divide will start to open up. There could be some excellent sunset photography opportunities from the top of this moraine.

I opted for the loop but came to a dead end that was packed full of snow and couldn’t continue without snow shoes. Back tracked a bit to the east side of Bierstadt Lake through the forest.

Halfway through March Bierstadt Lake was still frozen and completely covered in snow. Took some photos and walked across the frozen lake with no issues of ice cracking or weakening.
