Castle Lakes (10,610′)

[card id=”3171″]

Castle Lakes is a small, shallow pond that is about .1 miles off of Lion Lake trail in the Wild Basin of Rocky Mountain National Park. It’s not going to win any awards for best views but it is an alpine lake that is worth checking out as it’s not far from the main Lion Lake trail.

Calm reflections at Castle Lakes summer

We stopped at Castle Lakes briefly while on our way to Lion Lakes. At 5.1 miles and 10,610 feet there’s a faint trail to the west that will lead you right to the lake. Circling the lake on uneven marshy terrain, which could be muddy. Saw some fresh moose tracks right near the shore of the lake but unfortunately did not see any moose.
